Our approach

Our focus is you and our goal is to work collaboratively to provide personalized care with a range of compassionate, effective, and evidence-based therapeutic strategies including medication management, psychotherapy, and lifestyle optimization.

Comprehensive Evaluation

We start with a thorough initial psychiatric evaluation where the focus is on learning more about you as an individual and what your concerns are. This is a crucial foundation of being able to provide efficient and effective psychiatric care. We will work together to formulate a history of what has transpired in your past that has warranted the intake including reviewing any previous diagnoses or treatments. Given the comprehensiveness of this intake, the initial evaluation is done over two sessions, so that is two sessions about forty-five minutes long each. The assessment will mainly consist of direct evaluation by Dr. Azad but will also require completion of some questionnaires and at times involvement of family and/or teachers when appropriate. At the second part of the initial evaluation, we will discuss preliminary diagnostic impressions and work together to create an individualized treatment plan.

We always aim to empower our patients and work with them to see what sort of plan will be most sustainable. We promote therapy wherever possible but at times a medication might be suggested if other approaches have not been successful or if symptoms are severely reducing one’s quality of life. All treatment plans are customized and estimates can be provided on what expected outcomes might be and what a tentative timeline may be but specific nuances depend on each patient’s unique situation and needs.

Medication Management

We are well-versed in current evidence-based treatments and will provide appropriate support in initiating a medication, tapering off of a medication, switching to a new medication, or recommending alternative options when a medication is not appropriate or when a medication is not able to provide complete resolution of symptoms and challenges. We will work with you to address any concerns, hesitations, and preconceived notions about medications. We do not prescribe controlled substances in our practice but if we find that a patient may potentially benefit from such a medication, our team will work in collaboration with the patient’s pediatrician or PCP to make sure appropriate treatment is received (ie in the case of ADHD).

Psychotherapy

At Mental Wealth we are huge proponents of therapy and will incorporate supportive therapy in all sessions. However, we are also trained in many specific forms of talk therapy (ie goal-oriented therapy, insight oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based techniques) and will provide guidance and recommendations based on specific needs. We often recommend an integrated approach that draws techniques from multiple therapies in order to achieve efficient and patient-oriented results.
